Hi Tom,
I would like to get an estimate on a few things...
1) replacing the existing florescent light with recessed lighting. We already have one above the sink, not sure how many we would need. What do you suggest? Would you patch the hole in the ceiling?
2) installing hanging lights over the eating counter. (probably 3 of them)
3) the light over the dining room table to be replaced. (shown in back).
4) master bath ceiling fan (no light) replaced with a new fan w/ light.
5) And we are thinking about replacing the ceiling fan in the office with another fan. (there isn't a light with this fan)

Number one .
Usually we install 4 around the existing electrical box that supplies the florescent light fixture , for a total of five recessed lights , for a kitchen your size . Also by installing one recessed light in the center where the existing florescent light electrical box is there would be very little patching necessary . If we have to cut a hole to get a wire in we will patch the hole but the work getting it sanded and painted is up to you guys . These would run $90 each and this is the best price that we've installed them for in a long long time LOL .
Number two . Pendant lights normally run $175 and that includes the installation of three electrical boxes in the ceiling above the island or Peninsula and a switch on the wall to control them , dimmer if requested . This also includes the installation of the fixtures .
Number three $25
number four . Is this a ceiling fan or a bathroom exhaust fan ? If it's a ceiling fan or if it's bathroom exhaust fan to change either one out to a fan light combo would be no problem but if there's only one wire , I am assuming that runs up to the light then this would require the ceiling fan and light to come on together on the same switch . If that's the case you need an additional switch leg wire ran . Those normally run $155 . To hang a ceiling fan there would be $45 and to provide and install a new bathroom fan light combo would be about $165 . But that depends on the model that you choose and it may be as low as $125 . Installation and fan .
Number five ceiling fans are a flat rate of $45

I have an electrical problem where the lights brighten when a major appliance comes on (Washer-Dryer-Microwave etc.) Today it got so bad that
we can use only the washer or dryer at the same time...... One electrician inspected the main inlet cabinet and found a real mess. Bees nest and water
damage etc. This cabinet has the older type bolt in circuit breakers. One of my concern is fire and the other is damage to electronics.
Please advise if you have the proper permits to operate in Meck county and your labor rate or payment mode

Just bought a new dryer and after having issues found out that the builder had installed a 20amp breaker on the dryer circuit. Not sure of the wire gauge so don't know if I can just add a 30 amp breaker or not. Doesn't code require a 30 amp circuit for a dryer? May need someone to come by and check it for me. The town house was built in 2000. and is wired with a four prong wall socket. Thanks

He basically removed had the chandelier connected directly to the house aluminum wiring, and put the purple wire nuts over it. So I guess we're all set.
Quick question. On my ceiling fans upstairs, I have the aluminum wiring pigtailed (with purple nuts) to copper wiring, and then have the copper wiring connected to the ceiling fans with a regular nut. Is there any reason is should go in there, remove the pigtail, and just hook the fans up directly with the aluminum wiring using the purple wingnut (like we did on the chandelier) or should they be ok as is?

You have the option of using a six-inch or a miniature 4 inch recessed light in different areas for different applications . I recommend a six-inch for kitchens and the 4 inch miniature recessed light for accent lighting such as highlighting artwork or photography. You can go over placement with you and where the recessed lighting lays out in accordance with the structural members of the ceiling joist system . Hi Tom, Would it be possible to have Mark or Ashley come at noon tomorrow instead of at 8am? The work that is left is: 7 recessed lights ( 3 are already measured, 4 are to be measured to new cabinetry), the end of counter outlet, 3 pendant lights, two receptacle replacements (these will be white). I am having one less recessed light from my original estimate... on the sink side of my kitchen we had planned on 4 lights and the one over the sink and now we are doing 3 plus the one over the sink. We are no longer doing a second connection for the microwave but instead are putting the receptacle on the end of the peninsula to meet code. When Mark told me on that Thursday he would finish that day I did not know if we were going to be able to fit the depth of my new microwave into its originally planned location. So we were going to put it under the counter if we had to. Now I know we can fit it into the original location and Mark has already taken care of that. Nothing else has been added. The sheetrock has been replaced where it was not even so that recessed light over my sink can be installed. Tom, good morning. The lighting in the kitchen is too dark now with the removal of the fluorescent lights. We have 3 eyeball lights in the kitchen ceiling. Can we buy higher watt bulbs to increase light or do we need new high hats in there?

We had work done previously by you and were very pleased. Now we have two things we need. One is the exchange of an outside sensor floodlight with a standard flood light (no sensor). We also need a chandelier hung in the dining room. The chanelier will be an aluminum home wiring to copper fixture wiring connection, so I could use some help. Friday midday would be preferablyh (somewhere between 12 and 3).

The only thing I'm concerned about is that the house was built in 1977 so I was told to be cautious about piggy backing electrical lines, is this something that your company avoids?
Can you approximate how long it would take to install in all four rooms? Also, I'm not completely sure what it means to keep existing receptacles continuosly hot (on all the time)...pardon my lack of electrical knowledge, but that sounds dangerous.

Hi this is Tom the owner, sure we can . The best way to go about it in my opinion is to have a landscaping company come out and dig a ditch that is in a straight line from the house , to the closest available point on the boat dock . It gets expensive to have electricians do the trenching, landscape guys are usually all set up to do that type of thing and many of them actually owner trencher and or laborers. After the trench is dug by a landscape company or if you guys wanted to dig it yourself if you have the equipment then we would come in and add conduit in the ground and the wiring necessary for the boat dock . I can have a man stop by and look at everything this week if that works for you, just let me know . Hi okay this is Tom were going to try and locate a holddown kit for the breaker however in order to label the panel we need to be able to get inside the house and it's probably going to be about two and half hours to label panel as we will have to temporarily power the home and run a hot test on the entire house so that we can label everything. I can discount the hourly rate to 75 that will make it $187.50 for the time we will spend labeling the panel. The best I can do is charge $75 an hour for the remainder of the work it looks like it's going to be 4 1/2 hours of work total may be less but worst-case scenario it would before half. Which is $337.50 labor. Please let me know as soon as possible if a person can be there at 7 AM to unlock the house or if a person could just go by there at 7 AM and unlock the house for me. I would love to have a technician there first thing in the morning with the proper parts and breakers to make the corrections and get the inspector satisfied. Thanks so much talk to you soon

We were trying to get everything ready for tomorrow. You probably aren’t there at this time. I think we bought the wrong mount. We have a fixed mount, but unfortunately we bought the mount over a year ago so now they won’t swap it out for a tilt mount. Is it possible to shem the mount we have so it tilts down slightly. I’m afraid to mount it over the fireplace with the current mount because it will be difficult to watch. Let me know your thoughts. We still want to go ahead with the outlets/jacks so we can mount eventually.

The lights that Ashlee installed yesterday work great! The one over the driveway and the one over the back yard work just as I wanted. There is an adjustment that needs to be done to the light over the back patio. After it has been activated, instead of turning off, it goes to a low-light setting instead of turning all the way off. The dim setting then stays on indefinitely and never turns off. The other two turn all the way off and if you could set the third one the same way, we are done. I would try to do this myself but I don't have a way to get up to it.

Hi this is Tom the owner, sure Holly that's no problem at all. I just need to ask you a few questions first. First of all, is there crawlspace under the floor? I know it's silly but we have had people call us out to put in floor receptacles in a home that's built on a slab. Assuming that there is a crawlspace under the floor which I'm sure there is, is the floor hardwood or carpet? And do you want the outlets to be controlled by a switch or just on all the time? Just bought a new dryer and after having issues found out that the builder had installed a 20amp breaker on the dryer circuit. Not sure of the wire gauge so don't know if I can just add a 30 amp breaker or not. Doesn't code require a 30 amp circuit for a dryer? May need someone to come by and check it for me. The town house was built in 2000. and is wired with a four prong wall socket. Thanks

He basically removed had the chandelier connected directly to the house aluminum wiring, and put the purple wire nuts over it. So I guess we're all set.
Quick question. On my ceiling fans upstairs, I have the aluminum wiring pigtailed (with purple nuts) to copper wiring, and then have the copper wiring connected to the ceiling fans with a regular nut. Is there any reason is should go in there, remove the pigtail, and just hook the fans up directly with the aluminum wiring using the purple wingnut (like we did on the chandelier) or should they be ok as is?

You have the option of using a six-inch or a miniature 4 inch recessed light in different areas for different applications . I recommend a six-inch for kitchens and the 4 inch miniature recessed light for accent lighting such as highlighting artwork or photography. You can go over placement with you and where the recessed lighting lays out in accordance with the structural members of the ceiling joist system . Hi Tom, Would it be possible to have Mark or Ashley come at noon tomorrow instead of at 8am? The work that is left is: 7 recessed lights ( 3 are already measured, 4 are to be measured to new cabinetry), the end of counter outlet, 3 pendant lights, two receptacle replacements (these will be white). I am having one less recessed light from my original estimate... on the sink side of my kitchen we had planned on 4 lights and the one over the sink and now we are doing 3 plus the one over the sink. We are no longer doing a second connection for the microwave but instead are putting the receptacle on the end of the peninsula to meet code. When Mark told me on that Thursday he would finish that day I did not know if we were going to be able to fit the depth of my new microwave into its originally planned location. So we were going to put it under the counter if we had to. Now I know we can fit it into the original location and Mark has already taken care of that. Nothing else has been added. The sheetrock has been replaced where it was not even so that recessed light over my sink can be installed. We had work done previously by you and were very pleased. Now we have two things we need. One is the exchange of an outside sensor floodlight with a standard flood light (no sensor). We also need a chandelier hung in the dining room. The chanelier will be an aluminum home wiring to copper fixture wiring connection, so I could use some help. The only thing I'm concerned about is that the house was built in 1977 so I was told to be cautious about piggy backing electrical lines, is this something that your company avoids?
Can you approximate how long it would take to install in all four rooms? Also, I'm not completely sure what it means to keep existing receptacles continuosly hot (on all the time)...pardon my lack of electrical knowledge, but that sounds dangerous.

Hi this is Tom the owner, sure we can . The best way to go about it in my opinion is to have a landscaping company come out and dig a ditch that is in a straight line from the house , to the closest available point on the boat dock . It gets expensive to have electricians do the trenching, landscape guys are usually all set up to do that type of thing and many of them actually owner trencher and or laborers. After the trench is dug by a landscape company or if you guys wanted to dig it yourself if you have the equipment then we would come in and add conduit in the ground and the wiring necessary for the boat dock . I can have a man stop by and look at everything this week if that works for you, just let me know . Hi okay this is Tom were going to try and locate a holddown kit for the breaker however in order to label the panel we need to be able to get inside the house and it's probably going to be about two and half hours to label panel as we will have to temporarily power the home and run a hot test on the entire house so that we can label everything. I can discount the hourly rate to 75 that will make it $187.50 for the time we will spend labeling the panel. The best I can do is charge $75 an hour for the remainder of the work it looks like it's going to be 4 1/2 hours of work total may be less but worst-case scenario it would before half. Which is $337.50 labor. Please let me know as soon as possible if a person can be there at 7 AM to unlock the house or if a person could just go by there at 7 AM and unlock the house for me. I would love to have a technician there first thing in the morning with the proper parts and breakers to make the corrections and get the inspector satisfied. Thanks so much talk to you soon

We were trying to get everything ready for tomorrow. You probably aren’t there at this time. I think we bought the wrong mount. We have a fixed mount, but unfortunately we bought the mount over a year ago so now they won’t swap it out for a tilt mount. Is it possible to shem the mount we have so it tilts down slightly. I’m afraid to mount it over the fireplace with the current mount because it will be difficult to watch. Let me know your thoughts. We still want to go ahead with the outlets/jacks so we can mount eventually.

The lights that Ashlee installed yesterday work great! The one over the driveway and the one over the back yard work just as I wanted. There is an adjustment that needs to be done to the light over the back patio. After it has been activated, instead of turning off, it goes to a low-light setting instead of turning all the way off. The dim setting then stays on indefinitely and never turns off. The other two turn all the way off and if you could set the third one the same way, we are done. I would try to do this myself but I don't have a way to get up to it.

Heat and fan switch turned off fine. Clicked other switch for lights and motor, but the lights and motor stayed on. Rocked back and forth several times, still stayed on. Eventually cut circuit breaker to shut off. Am assuming switch shorted out. Seems like very minor repair but switch with four wires coming off it hard to find and hard to get out of fireplace frame. Assuming that there is a crawlspace under the floor which I'm sure there is, is the floor hardwood or carpet? And do you want the outlets to be controlled by a switch or just on all the time? Hey Raj let me just say that the entire problem with aluminum wiring and homes is usually not in direct conjunction with a light fixture being hooked up to a circuit. A light fixture may draw a total of 130 W divided by 120 V equals 1.08 of an amp . This load is very small , as would be any load arc that may result from a faulty connection in the fixture . That having been said a light fixture with a faulty connection that was arcing inside the box. Would most certainly cause the light to show some signs of the weak were deteriorating connection. Such as flickering off and on . The main problem with aluminum wiring and homes is not light fixtures so to the end of the switch leg . The main problem with aluminum connections in homes is when a connection is made inside a receptacle box and that receptacle feeds multiple other receptacles in the home. These other receptacles that are fed from the offending receptacle can many times have multiple appliances plugged into them that may or may not be monitored by people constantly to see if there cutting in and out. That's all larger load applied to aluminum to copper connections in a receptacle feedthrough type situation in a box in your home. Is the usual culprit for aluminum wiring fire. The amperage draw on disconnection can reach anywhere from 1 amp to 20 amp's . At that amperage there is a significant danger of a load arc situation causing an arc fire.
